William A. Ramos

Deputy Director, Office of Federal and Regional Affairs

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Miami, William A. Ramos has a passion for community service, social and racial justice, and the empowerment of the Latino community and communities of color that spans a thirty plus year professional career that was inspired by his parents’ community involvement.

Prior to joining Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s administration as Deputy Director of Federal and Regional Affairs, William was appointed by President Barack Obama as the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, Office of the Secretary at the US Department of Commerce where he served during the eight years of the administration. William was Director of the Washington, DC Office of National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, an Executive Fellow for King County Executive Ron Sims in Seattle, Director of Government Relations for Americas Promise: The Alliance for Youth founded by former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and was a Government Relations and Policy Consultant at the YMCA of the USA.

William began his career in Miami at ASPIRA of Florida, a Puerto Rican youth leadership development organization where he was Deputy Director. William was later appointed as Director of Policy and Legislation for a Miami-Dade County Commissioner before moving to Washington, DC in 2001. William earned a Bachelor of Science in social work from Florida International University and Master of Public Administration from Bernard Baruch College, School of Public Affairs at the City University of New York (CUNY). William currently serves as President of the Florida International University (FIU) in DC Alumni Network and is a 2006 alumnus of the prestigious National Urban Fellows program.
